Phlebotomy

This program offers students the opportunity to learn valuable skills in phlebotomy.  Students in the program receive training in necessary aspects of the phlebotomist’s world, such as the healthcare system, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and pathological conditions in relation to the clinical laboratory.  Students study body systems, laboratory testing, specimen collection, infection prevention and safety.  In addition, professionalism, effective communication, legal and ethical responsibilities, requisitioning, transporting, processing, and quality assurance are covered.  Essential skills like venipunctures, and hands-on learning introduce students to this exciting profession.

Career Options for Graduates

  • Graduates will earn a Snow College Phlebotomy Program Completion Certificate
  • Graduates are able to work as a phlebotomist and use their phlebotomy skills in a variety of hospitals, long-term care centers, clinics, and other healthcare settings.  

Admission Requirements

  • Adult student:  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • High School Students:  Must be 17 to enroll and 18 by the end of class to begin clinicals

  • The following will be collected after you begin the program:

    • Take and pass a urine drug screen
    • Complete and pass a federal criminal background check
      • A social security number or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) is required to run the background check
      • Any felony or misdemeanor conviction that you have on your record or positive drug screen may negatively impact your chances of completing the program and being placed at an externship site.

      • Be current on the following immunizations: MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza, and have a negative TB skin test.  Covid-19 vaccination is not required, but documentation will need to be submitted if you have been vaccinated for it.  Some of our clinical partners may require the vaccination if an outbreak occurs.  Please email the program coordinator if you have any questions regarding the Covid-19 vaccination requirements.
