Sarah Morrow made history as the first female instrumentalist to join the legendary Ray Charles Orchestra, earning the gig after Charles himself heard her play and exclaimed, “I want to hire him”—not realizing the bold trombone sound belonged to her.
Since then, Morrow has forged a groundbreaking path in jazz, performing with an eclectic list of icons including Bootsy Collins, Dr. John, Ray Charles, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Van Morrison, and Arturo Sandoval. A world-class trombonist, arranger, and producer, she’s headlined major jazz festivals globally and appeared at venues like the Kennedy Center and the Hollywood Bowl.
A standout collaborator and musical director, she co-produced and arranged Dr. John’s acclaimed album Ske-Dat-De-Dat: The Spirit of Satch, which debuted at #1 on multiple charts. She’s also contributed to projects for Disney and Jon Favreau, including the 2016 Jungle Book, and served as a U.S. cultural envoy to Africa.
Known for her innovative compositions and electric stage presence, Sarah Morrow continues to break barriers and redefine what it means to be a jazz artist in the 21st century.
