Snow College provided me with opportunities to get outside of my comfort zone through participation in many different clubs, and by providing valuable leadership opportunities and experiences. While the classes were great, it was the people who were mentors to me -- who believed in and encouraged me -- that forged the strong feelings I have for Snow College.
There are many, but the most memorable was meeting my wife through the musical group, Ascension, and the local LDS student ward.
I graduated from SUU with a degree in Elementary Education and spent 10 years working
in North Sanpete School District: 6 years as a middle school teacher, and 4 years
as the District Technology Director. During that time, I also taught for 6 years as
an adjunct Biology instructor at Snow, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I then transitioned to the business world, joining a start-up education software company,
PowerSchool. That company was subsequently bought by Apple Computer, and then by Pearson,
and allowed me the opportunity to work with some great people and amazing schools
throughout the world.
I left Pearson to work in again in a start-up setting, working for TH(i)NQ Ed, and
then got back to my teacher roots when I joined School Improvement Network in 2012.
School Improvement's mission is to help teachers improve so they can help 100% of
students become college and/or career ready; something near and dear to my heart.
The advice I would give would be to take full advantage of the wonderful opportunities
attending Snow College provides. The size of the student body makes it possible to
be involved with many different groups and activities on campus. As a student, you
also have access to incredible faculty and staff who are there because they love teaching
and working with students. There are very few campuses where you can get the kind
of personal attention from the caliber of people than you can get at Snow. Snow is
a place where you can have fun, explore and lay a solid foundation that will serve
you well the rest of your life.
